Square Resources
Established in March 2010, Square is a unique company with involvement in all raw material supply chain from exploration, mining, sales to marketing and trading. Our mission is to be the world leading natural resources marketing and trading house in a globally responsible way.
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Staffan Ever – Managing Director
Over 25 years experience in the mining industry with a main focus on the development, management and financing of mining projects. First employee, GM and leading board member of all entities for AMCI Australia whose assets later sold for approx. A$1B. Started the US$65 MM Triangle Fund investing in early stage global mineral resource projects, covering the US, South Africa, South America and Australia. Joined QCoal Pty Ltd as CEO and oversaw the startup of the Sonoma Mine. Staffan holds a Master of Science in Civil Engineering & a Masters of Business Administration.
Kevin Kanamori – CEO and Executive Director
Over 20 years of experience in the resource/trading industry mainly focused on purchasing and sales of coal / iron ore and strategic investments. Kevin was JFE Steel Group’s first GM in Brisbane, Australia, oversaw several strategic investments and represented JFE on the board of all entities. After JFE Kevin joined QCoal where he led business development and marketing. He very successfully developed the Sonoma mine including forming JV at multiple billion dollar valuation to finance it, marketed and sold all coking/thermal coal under 5 years average long-term contracts.
Bjorn Zikarsky – Non-Executive Director
Over 20 years experience in the financial services industry, including advisory, capital market transactions and private equity. Prior to Square Bjorn was Senior Vice President Natural Resources Nomura Australia, advising medium to large mining companies on transaction across the IB product range. Bjorn has a Masters of Business Administration in Finance and Strategy from The Wharton School of Business and a Bachelor of Business from the University of Southern California in Entrepreneurial Management.
EXECUTIVE
Yoko Tanaka – Chief Operating Officer
Over 15 years experience in the resource/trading industry. Yoko worked for Marubeni, a major Japanese trading and business conglomerate, where she was assigned from Tokyo HQ to their Brisbane office to administer several coal JVs. Extensive contacts with Japanese coal buyers, she has also contributed in developing and increasing Square’s trading business in the Asian region including Korea, China and India. Yoko has a Bachelors degree in Law from Sophia University in Tokyo, Japan.
